Free will is the supposed ability of living intelligent beings to make their own decisions, which are not subordinate to any higher being or force. One of the most important philosophical disputes if human beings actually have this capacity or our destiny is on the contrary sealed previously. One of the most famous paradoxes, which relates the concept of free will to God, asks the following:

"If God knows everything, even what will happen in the future, how has he been able to give us the ability to make our own decisions?"

Interpretation in computer

The concept of free will appears in the area of artificial intelligence. So far, all human-made machines are predictable and work exactly the way they have been programmed. For that reason, non-artificial machine created until now has the capacity to act on its own and to make its own rational decisions, as a human. However, this situation is probably change in the future. Some novels or films have already presented similar circumstances (see I, Robot (film)). The apparition of an artificial machine with free will would be the greatest advance achieved in artificial intelligence in history, since it would require a completely different implementation to the views so far. On the other hand, free will is closely related to concepts such as learning, education and ethical and moral feelings, capacities much more proper to a biological system than a computer. Also, because of the unpredictability of the actions of an entity capable of making decisions on its own, the risks associated with such a machine would be very significant and difficult to control.
